Iran May Find Gas Near Coal Layers

TEHRAN Sept 16 (Shana)--Iran is likely to make new gas find ear coal layers, the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) has said.

The head of the upstream department of RIPI said the research institute is ready to study methane gas reserves in coal reservoirs in Iran.
Saleh Hendi said that the gas produced from coal layers may have migrated to sedimentary layers or nearby formations.
“Therefore, there is the possibility of gas reservoirs in the sandstones, shale gas and even compressed gas reservoirs in deeper layers,” he said.
Hendi said Iran is estimated to hold 1.1 billion tons of coal in different mines across the country.
