A member of the board of directors of the Union of Exporters of Oil Products, Gas and Petrochemicals, Hamid Hosaini, made the remarks, adding while total petrochemicals' output stood at 1.884 million tons in 2012, Iran’s petrochemical plants produced 40 million tons of petrochemicals during the year.
He continued expanding petrochemical production capacity is a suitable way for turning to treatment and processing and at the same time avoiding selling crude materials.
He also noted that domestic oil refineries process 1.6 million barrels of crude oil each day making up 2 percent of total processing capacity of the world which is inadequate with regard to the huge amount of oil reserves the country sits atop.
“When compared with the Middle Eastern countries, our standing is acceptable of course”, Hosaini noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said a combination of energy and mining activities is the best solution for avoiding selling raw materials.
Iran is among the few countries in the world holding huge amounts of hydrocarbon resources and metals, he concluded.
