Petrochemical Sector Development Essential

TEHRAN Oct 27 (Shana)--Balanced development of downstream sector is necessary as the hurdles on the way of petrochemical development are to be removed, a member of Industries and Mining Commission of Parliament Gholam Mohammad Zarei said.

He added, since petrochemical industry is experiencing rapid development, taking necessary initiatives with the goal of meeting their needs to feedstock is very essential.

He noted that meeting the rising needs of petrochemical plants for feedstock requires private and cooperative sectors to boost their investments in the field, so it is expected not only the government and specially NPC to provide necessary infrastructures for providing feedstock but the parliament is also expected to facilitate investments through appropriate legislation.

“Projects like NGL are vital for the country because they help the country to expand necessary infrastructures in petrochemical industry”, Zarei said.

He added the country has no problem to provide enough feedstock for the current installed production capacity of 60 million tons, noting while petrochemical sector plans to boost nameplate production capacity of petrochemicals to 100 million tons annually, there is no way unless they pave the way for rising investment and providing enough feedstock.

According to the MP, launching West Ethylene Pipeline which is scheduled to come online before the next Iranian calendar year to March 2016 will play a very crucial role in providing enough infrastructures for development of petrochemical sector and meeting needs to feedstock.
