Iran Mulls Petchem Diversity

TEHRAN Nov 24 (Shana)--A deputy head of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has said that Iran is considering diversifying its petrochemical production by operating new projects.

Mohammad-Hassan Peyvandi said the start-up of new petrochemical products and the completion of value chain will raise the production capacity of petrochemical plants and diversify products.

“Due to its vast and secure hydrocarbon reserves, Iran enjoys a great deal of advantages for the development of petrochemical industry,” he said.

Peyvandi said petrochemical plants in Iran are able to supply a variety of polymer and chemical products needed in the country.

“Development projects which gradually enter the production cycle can diversify production,” he said.

Iran Petrochemical Commercial Company (IPCC) exported 838 million dollars worth of petrochemicals during the first four months of the current calendar year which started on March 21.

The exported products, weighing 831,000 tons, mainly included propane and butane.

Iran produced 40 million tons of petrochemicals in the last calendar year, with 9 billion dollars worth of its products being exported.

The country plans to increase its petrochemical exports to 12 billion dollars this year.
