Iran to Make Energy-Efficient Cars

TEHRAN Dec 01 (Shana)--Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh has said that Iran plans to manufacture energy-efficient cars in order to reduce fuel consumption and curb air pollution.

He told an international car conference in Tehran that Iranian car manufacturers plan to produce low-cost and hybrid cars in order to cut air pollution and fuel use.

He said that average carbon dioxide emission should decline from 190 grams per kilometer to 100 grams per kilometer.

Nematzadeh said Iran plans to launch production line for one million vehicles burning euro-5 and euro-6 gasoline annually, manufacture 50,000 multi-purpose vans and launch production line for automatic gearboxes.

The minister said Iran’s car industry turnover is $12 billion a year, which is expected to grow by 30 percent.
