Sanctions Outdated, Afkham

TEHRAN Jan 29(Shana)--Using sanctions as a means for putting pressure on Iran is outdated and unworkable, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said.

Speaking during a briefing session with journalists on Wednesday, Afkham said the Islamic Republic of Iran has offered a number of proposals to ride out the existing deadlocks in the negotiations, expressing hope that the other side will take heed of the proposals to increase the possibility of striking a deal and settling remaining differences.

“Despite narrowing gaps in negotiations the two sides have a hard word ahead for bridging differences completely”, Afkham said expressing hope the remaining differences will be resolved through deploying political will.

She said, "Foreign Ministry monitors the news related to nuclear negotiations closely evaluating the remarks made by the members of the U.S Congress as domestic debates."

On Iran-Saudi Arabia relations, she said boosting bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia is important for settlement of disputes in the region.

According to the spokeswoman, striking a deal on Iran’s nuclear issue will be helpful for reinforcing peace and stability in the region and will damage no country’s interests.

Replying a question on Putin’s scheduled visit to Iran in 2015, she noted that the two countries enjoy good relations seeking to promote mutual relations to a higher level.
