Boosting Exports Needs Deregulation, Industry Minister

TEHRAN Feb 24(Shana)--Deregulation will help the country to boost exports and that is why the government has not imposed any new tariffs on exports so far.

Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohammadrez Nematzadeh made the remarks in a meeting which took place yesterday with the presence of capital market activists and high ranking economic officials of the government adding the constitution, general principles of article 44 on privatization and the Supreme Leader of the Revolution all have underlined the necessity of playing a greater role by private sector in economic activities.

The minister continued that transferring economic activities to private sector, paving the groundwork for private sector activities and giving it necessary mandates for growth and productivity are among the top priorities of the government.

He noted that Iran’s economy has its own complexities so we should dare to reshape the economy and this is possible just by moving toward deregulation.

While in developed countries a very little time is spent for legislation, in our country too much time is spent for enacting various laws which are superfluous and the country does not need them, Nematzadeh said, adding some of these laws should be annulled for streamlining economic activates.

Expressing dissatisfaction with too many problems private sector faces for doing business, the minister said, “We should help the sector to become stronger because a weak private sector can do nothing."

He also expressed hope the country one day have a single foreign exchange rate mechanism saying many corruptions and difficulties in the process of making decisions originate from lack of existence a single foreigner exchange rate mechanism.
