Khangiran Sour Gas Output 30% UP

TEHRAN August 29(Shana)—Production capacity of sour gas from Khangiran gas field has increased 30-40% after several recovery enhancement operations, managing director of Iran’s East Oil and Gas Production Company said.

Mohammad-Reza Mehdi-Pour told Shana that the rise has been made possible by modifying the field's sour gas wells.

He said recovery enhancement operations at the wells have raised their output to nearly 2mcm/d.

Furthermore, the improvement has become possible by resizing downhole pipes for some of the wells raising their production capacity some 40%.

Mehdi-Pour added that the company provides 60 to 70% of its needed equipment from domestic manufacturers. Sour gas operations need specially produced equipment that require advanced technologies.

Last calendar year to March, East Oil and Gas Production Company's output stood at 17bcm of natural gas along with more than 600,000 barrels of gas condensate which was delivered to Hasheminejad Refinery for treatment.

The company is currently recovering gas from the offshore Khangiran and Gonbadli gas fields in northeastern Iran.

Iran shares Gonbadli field with Turkmenistan. This field produces 1.1 mcm/d of gas.
