Indonesia Says Ready to Buy Crude Oil from Iran

TEHRAN, May 30 (Shana) -- Indonesia is ready to buy crude oil from Iran, visiting Indonesian Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said said.

He told reporters after his meeting with Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh.

Inking a deal for import of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Iran was the first step forward boost of cooperation between Tehran and Jakarta and a turning point in the history of two states ties, the official added.

He noted that Indonesia is ready now to import 150,000- 200,000 bpd of crude oil from Iran that can be increased gradually in the future.

Sudirman said that talks between National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and Pertamina, the Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation on joint investment has been already started.

He called his talks with Iranian petroleum minister constructive, adding that they have discussed import of crude oil and gas condensates as well as investment in the upstream sector.

Indonesia on Monday inked a deal with Iran for purchase of 80,000 metric tons of LPG this year.

Based on the deal, Tehran will raise its LPG export to Indonesia and it will export 500, 000 metric tons of LPG to Jakarta the next Iranian calendar year (started March 21).

During a meeting with Sudirman on Monday, Zangeneh said Iran has opened all the doors to cooperation with Indonesia, adding, "Iran and Indonesia share similar stances in OPEC and global oil markets."

He noted that "The relations between the two countries facilitate institution of a major change in enhancing mutual ties in oil, gas and petrochemical industries.”

"Iran has opened all the doors for cooperation with Indonesian state and private companies and they can join energy projects in areas such as natural gas, petroleum products, and petrochemicals as well as joint investments in refining and development of oilfields," Zangeneh added.
