Petchem Exports Up 3mt/y under Rouhani Admin.

TEHRAN, Aug 23 (Shana) – Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei says export of petrochemical products has grown by at least 3 million tons under the Rouhani administration.

She said the country's production, sale and export of petrochemicals has increased by 16% since 2013 when Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took office.

Shahdaei said 4% of the growth was made possible in the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20.

He said the current year will be a lucky year for the industry, saying during this year and the first half of the next year, 15 petrochemical projects have or will become operational which will add nearly 7 million tons to the country's total petrochemical output.

Marziyeh Shahdaei, who is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, said those projects which were left hamstrung because of the sanctions in the previous years will resume their operation.

"We have never witnessed a year in the history of Iran's petrochemical industry in which 10 projects come online, but this year will be the year," she said.

Speaking on the occasion of the Government Week, the NPC official said implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has set the petrochemical industry in motion in Iran while more feedstock is being available to petrochemical plants by inauguration of new South Pars phases.

She said export of petrochemicals has grown 23% in the past three years. Petrochemical exports account for 40% of Iran's non-oil exports.

She said in 2012 the country produced 41 mt of petrochemicals annually which hit 46 mt/y last year.

Moreover, exports stood at 15.8 mt/y which reached 18.8 mt/y in 2015, she added.
