Zarif: Iran to Guarantee Investment in LatAm States

TEHRAN, Aug 24 (Shana) – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran's government will guarantee investment and implementation of various projects by private companies in Latin American states, including Nicaragua.

Zarif told the Iran-Nicaragua joint trade session on Tuesday that Iranian and Nicaraguan people and government, resisting foreign pressures, have always been beside each other in the diplomatic scene and international forums and the cooperation should be strengthened in the economic field as well.

He said, "The time is now ripe for further acquaintance of the representatives of the two countries with each other's potential for cooperation and implementation of the economic projects."

The son of Nicaraguan president and director of investment projects in the country Laureano Ortega told the session that his country welcomes presence and activities of various Iranian companies there.

He said the services Iranian companies offer in various fields like construction, renewable energies, industry and agriculture, are in full concordance with the needs of Nicaragua.

Zarif has travelled to the region at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation comprising 120 businessmen and financial executives from government and private sectors. The tour started off in Cuba on Monday, when he met with Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez and the country’s President Raul Castro.

During his stay in Nicaragua, Zarif also met with René Nuñez Tellez, the head of Nicaragua’s National Assembly (Parliament), as well as the country’s President Daniel Ortega.

He has now arrived in Ecuador.

His tour of Latin American countries will further take him to Chile, Bolivia, and finally Venezuela.
