NITC Vessel Calls at European Port

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (Shana) -- Managing Director of the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Sirus Kianersi said the first Iranian crude tanker has recently called at a Spanish port, saying NITC vessels have been able to sail freely in European waters in the post-JCPOA era.

Speaking on the occasion of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the official said after JCPOA implementation January 2016, NITC ships could freely sail in European waters.

"Today, after resolution of insurance, classing, flagging and international certification issues for Iranian vessels, we have witnessed another JCPOA achievement for the country's marine transportation," he said.

"The first NITC oil tanker, leased to a major Spanish oil company, berthed at Port of Algeciras in Spain recently," he added.

Kianersi rejected allegations that the vessel had downloaded its cargo at the port with a delay, saying the tanker downloaded its consignment and left the port immediately.

NITC is planning to display a powerful and effective presence in international markets, he said adding two other NITC tankers are moving toward destinations in the Netherlands.

NITC, with a fleet that can deliver up to 15.5 million tons of hydrocarbon liquids, is one of the world's biggest crude tanker companies.
