TEHRAN –- By earmarking over 2.9 trillion rials ($309 million) for the creation of the required infrastructure for the North Pars gas field, the trend of development will greatly accelerate in the next Iranian calendar year (starts March 20, 2008).

Seyyed Abdoljalil Razavi, the managing director of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ), told PIN that during the past year over 500 billion rials has been spent by the National Iranian Oil Company for the development of Bushehr Province. A total of 15 infrastructure development projects are underway in the North Pars gas field, the most important of which are building access roads, establishing administrative and logistics departments, flood control, helicopter landing pads, fencing construction, and port installations.

Over half of the manpower in the zone will be local, he vowed.

Razavi said the North Pars field has a 16 thousand square kilometer area, extending along the towns of Dayyer, Dashti, and Tangestan.

The North Pars gas field is located 58km from the South Pars field, the world’s largest gas reserve. The field holds about 80 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and has the capacity to produce 431 billion cubic meters of gas per day.

According to the plan, the North Pars gas field will be developed in four phases and the produced gas will be used for the production of liquefied natural gas.
