TEHRAN (PIN) – Iranian Minister of Oil emphasized members of Gas Exporting Countries Forum do not want to put any consumer countries under pressure.

According to a report by PIN, Gholam-Hossein Nozari who is in Doha for the 8th GECF session said: "According to the regulations of the organization, the chairman will be chosen on an annual basis and will start his activities from the beginning of the New Year (2010).

Regarding the method of selection of the chairman, Nozari said: "There are two techniques for this. First, he is chosen on an alphabetical basis and in that case the choice will be the Algiers candidate or every member country will vote for one of the candidate countries. At the moment the only country which has introduced a candidate is Iran, and therefore no vote will take place."

Regarding the role of the organization in gas pricing, the Minister of Oil said: "Out of the establishment of OPEC, it took 10 years for the organization to be able to influence the market and establish oil prices. Therefore, this organization must also be given opportunity to become fully established and play its role in the gas market."

This is the first session of the organization after the Moscow conference where the rules and regulations of the organization were approved.
