Oji: Storing natural gas begins soon

Deputy Iran's Petroleum minister says storing natural gas in the country begins from Ordibehesht (21 April 2010) by completion of the gas storage facility in Seraje in Qom.

In an interview with Shana, engineer Javad Oji, managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said: With regard to providing gas injection compressors, the natural gas storage project has entered a new phase.

He stated that with commencement of the project, Islamic Republic of Iran joins the club of the countries holding natural gas storage facilities.

Engineer Oji said the natural gas stored in Seraje, would be used in commercial and household sectors during peak consumption days.

Expressing that 13 percent of natural gas production in the world is stored, Mr. Oji called acceleration of gas storage projects in the country and stressed that by the end of fifth Development Plan, 100 million cubic meters of daily gas consumption should be met through natural gas storage facilities.

Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company  pointed out that so far, 24 places for storing gas had been studied and 4 of them was final.

According to Shana, in order to realizing country's Development Plans goals, petroleum ministry has put implementation of natural gas storage projects on the agenda and from 217 studied plans, more than 10, including some salt dome storages, have been known suitable to this end.
