In an interview with Shana, Mr. Farid Ameri said average daily consumption of the gas oil has been 93/1 million liters per day during the last week. He also said that domestic refineries produce about 46 million liters of gasoline and 87 million liters of gas oil each day.
Farid Ameri estimated that by year's end (Iranian calendar year ends 20 March 2010), each day we need to take about 22 million liters of gasoline from abroad.
Emphasizing the necessity of supply and demand management, Mr. Ameri said the country's energy consumption was on the rise and despite increasing investment in production of oil products and other needed energies; controlling the accelerated pace of rising consumption could be difficult.
He said reforming consumption pattern through modifying prices is one of the ways to manage the demand and supply and noted that, at present, the prices bring no incentive on reducing energy consumption and some ethical recommendations have just short-term effects.
Managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company added, in case of continuation of increasing natural gas consumption by power plants, available natural gas could not be able to meet consumer's needs and consequently the share of liquid fuels will rise in the energy basket of our country.
