Rising stocks and a mild winter made gas oil imports unnecessary during the past Iranian month (22 December to 20 January).

In an interview with Shana, Housain Aghaian, deputy-managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said gas oil inventories have risen by 171 million liters during first 10 months of the year (started 21 March 2009) in comparison to the corresponding period last year.

Deputy-managing director of NIOPDC said rising inventories amid a mild weather has caused gas oil imports to be suspended.

He stipulated that the storage tanks are full and the country face no difficulty to meet needs to the strategic commodity this year.

Mr. Aghaian said if the current weather conditions to be continued, the country will not need new gas oil imports and all the needs would be met through domestic reserves.

Referring cessation of gas oil imports during first half of the year, Mr. Aghaian said, with rising consumption of the product, NIOPDC has imported three 290 thousand tons and a few small gas oil cargoes since Mehr (23 September).

According to him, daily gas oil  imports since the start of the year averaged 6/5 million liters.
