Tehran (Shana) – Managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) described here on Monday some of the oil industry achievements after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

At a ceremony on the 31st victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Shahnazizade, by introducing some statistics, said that 3 decades after the revolution, oil refining capacity of the country has increased from 970 thousands barrel a day to 1/7 million barrel a day.

He added: from the first days of the revolution, oil industry staff entered the scene and took part in struggle against the monarchy dictatorship along with other strata of the society.

Shanazizade said: while oil products production capacity in the first year of the revolution stood at 100 million liters a day, now it has been risen to 240 million liters a day.

NIORDC managing director noted that total length of oil pipelines in the country has increased from 7 thousands km to 14 thousand km and is scheduled to increase to 20 thousands km by completion of ongoing projects.

Shahnazizade stipulated that while oil products stockpiling capacity barely reached 2 billion liters on the year 1357 (1979), now it is 11/5 billion liters and is slated to increase to 16 million liters.

Expressing that current gasoline production capacity of the country is 44 million liters a day; NIORDC managing director said: by launching some refining projects, diesel production capacity has reached from 25 million liters a day to 84 million liters a day.

Shanazizade said that while gasoline production capacity was 14 million liters a day in 1357 (1979), building three new refineries in Isfahan, Arak and Bandar Abbas plus upgrading oil refineries, has boosted the capacity considerably.

According to him, liquid gas production capacity in the country' refineries has moved up from 3/44 million cubic meters a day to 7 million cubic meters a day.

Shanazizdae said that launching fuel smart cards are among the economic achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran and by using it; gasoline consumption has been limited to 66 million liters a day.

According to some surveys, if the rationing plan and fuel smart cards had not been applied in society, excluding 44 million liters daily production of domestic refineries, gasoline imports would have exceeded 50 million liters a day.

Shanazizade expressed hope that new refining projects come on stream in the next year.
