Kish Island (Shana) – Iran's petroleum minister says two new oil and gas fields have been discovered in the country recently.

According to Shana correspondent, before the signing ceremony of Kish gas field development project, Doctor Seyed Masoud Mirkazemi, the petroleum minister, announced here on Saturday the discovery of two new oil and gas fields.

He said Halegan gas field locates in the province of Fars and Somar oil field in the province of Kermanshah.

According to him, the gas field has the capacity to yield 50 million cubic meters of gas a day for 20 years.
 
He further noted assuming thirty cents for each cubic meter of gas and 70 dollars a barrel of gas condensate, Halegan field development is capable to bring more than 80 billion dollars revenue for the country.

Concerning the Somar oil field, Mirkazemi pointed out that in place oil reserves of the field estimated at 475 million barrels, 70 million of it could be recovered.

He said assuming $70 per barrel, financial returns of the field would be 5 billion dollars and emphasized on the necessity of early planning in order to exploit the field.
