Assaloyeh (Shana) – "The government intends to help development of downstream industries through financial support, modification of the rules and helping investors" Iran's petroleum minister announced here today in the exploitation ceremony of six petrochemical projects in Assaluyeh.

Appreciating consultants and managers on the field of consultancy, project control, supervision and implementation of the projects, Doctor Seyed Masoud Mirkazemi said: launching these projects are cause of proud because while a few years ago Iran was just a crude oil exporter, today it is a strong country capable to stand on its feet.

Noting that Iran is sitting atop the second biggest gas reserves of the world, the petroleum minister said: it is necessary we optimize the way of using natural resources and convert them to value added petrochemical products while trying not to ignore exporting natural gas.

Mirkazemi emphasized on reconsidering petrochemical industry strategy and pointed out: it is necessary petrochemical industry to harmonize its targets with general policies of article 44, subsidy reform bill and privatization and try to get help from private sector, public institutions and people to implement its developmental plans.

The petroleum minister went on to say that in the past, petrochemical projects were implemented by the government, that is while via privatization, it is possible to increase role of private sector in the industry.
