In a message on the occasion of successful efforts to kill a 40 day fire in the oil well, Dr. Masoud Mirkazemi said that this glory is deserved for those brave men who have overcome this destructive incident and similar cases in the past.
A gas leak from a drilling site ignited the fire in the well in late May, killing four people and wounding a dozen.
The fire continued for nearly 40 days before putting out on Tuesday.
Meanwhile IRNA reported that governor of Qasr-e-Shirin city, close to Iraqi border, Bahram Teymoori has declared that controlling fire of the well was a record, because according to the world standards, controlling fire of an oil well takes six months.
He appreciated efforts of all those who tried hard to halt the fire.
Fire broke out in the oil well No. 24 on May 29, 2010 and caused death of 4 employees of the oil staff and injury of 14 others.
Naftshahr oil field was discovered in 1923. Reserves of the field are estimated to be more than 692 million barrels as well as noticeable amount of natural gas.
