TEHRAN 10 Aug (Shana): Iraq confirmed Monday that it has told its neighbor, Iran that it is ready to allow the transit of Iranian natural gas destined for Syria and Mediterranean countries, Dow Jones reported from Amman quoted an Iraq's deputy oil minister.

"Yes, we confirm that," Kareem Al Luaby told Dow Jones Newswires by telephone from Baghdad.

Al Luaby, who is the senior deputy oil minister for exploration, gave no further details.

Meantime, an Iraqi oil official said that a delegation from the Iranian oil ministry was in Baghdad two weeks ago and met with Al Luaby and other senior officials in the Iraqi oil ministry. The official, however, said that he wasn't informed about the outcome of the meetings.

NIGC’s managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company, Javad Oji, told Shana news service on Aug 8 that Iraqi government has authorized Iranian gas to be transited to Syria by passing its soil.

On the sidelines of a ceremony to commemorate Reporters Day (8 Aug) in Iran, Javad Oji said that in a meeting with Iraqi officials, ministers of oil and power of the country declared Iraqi readiness to transfer Iran’s gas to Syria and the Mediterranean region.

Noting that by expanding Iran’s gas pipeline network there is the possibility to supply Iraq’s power plants with natural gas, NIGC managing director stated that Iraq needs to import 10 million cubic meters of gas per day, which would be provided by the Iran’s sixth national gas pipeline network.

Oji said that the sixth national gas pipeline network has the capacity to carry 110 million cubic meters per day through which natural gas would be exported to Iraq and Syria.
