NIOC to decide on shared oil and gas fields soon, Qalebani

TEHRAN 17 Aug (Shana): Managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Ahmad Qalebani, says the company will decide over the next six months on the development and investment in the shared oil and gas fields.

Stressing on the necessity of early making a decision on the status of shared fields, Qalebani said: we are needed to finalize the development plan, selection of the contractors and executives, timetable, financial resources and other matters related to shared oil and gas fields by the end of the current Iranian year (ends on 20 March 2011).

Qalebani said NIOC intends to accelerate implementation of the upstream projects, to develop shared fields and to increase output adding a comprehensive planning is under consideration to this end.

He expressed hope final decision, on the development and investment in all the shared oil and gas fields, whether onshore or offshore, to be taken over the next six months.

Noting that the contracts to develop remaining phases of the South Pars gas field have been finalized with Iranian companies, NIOC’s managing director stipulated that some of the neighboring countries private and public sectors have expressed their willingness to take part in the projects.

Elsewhere in his remarks Qalebani said those who are interested in investment in South Pars gas field phases can enter into talks with the related consortia and to cooperate with them as subcontractor.

Qalebani stressed that our priority was to develop all the shared onshore and offshore oil and gas fields concluding that development of the these fields will start with the participation of the Iranian and foreign banks and companies.
