Noting that revision in the statistics relating to the recoverable oil reserves is not new, Mohsen Khojastemehr said: the resources have been revising in the past based on new explorations, technical studies and applying a single method of calculation compatible with the international standards.
According to the Khojastemehr, Iran as the other oil producing countries, presents its oil and gas reserves statistics to the related organizations such as OPEC.
Deputy Minister of petroleum stipulated that our country’s hydrocarbon resources have been studied based on new explorations, finding new oil and gas wells and the methods relating to the secondary reserves of the wells and so it is estimated the result of the study shows the increasing volume of the hydrocarbon resources.
Noting that revision is subject to a scientific and technical process, Khojastemehr said that experts of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and department of planning and supervision on hydrocarbon resources survey the country’s resources by applying scientific means and the latest international methods of calculation.
Emphasizing that studying hydrocarbon resources is underway by the petroleum ministry, the official said current volume of the Iran’s hydrocarbon resources have been published officially in the past and after the completion of the current studies we can announce new figures if there is a change.
Based on the latest official figures published by the ministry of petroleum in 2008, Iran’s recoverable oil reserves stand at 137.620 billion barrels and recoverable gas reserves at 29.610 billion cubic meters.
