TEHRAN 30 August (Shana): The Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic officials will talk on gas trade after the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the National Iranian Gas Company, Javad Oji, announced here on Monday.

In an exclusive interview with Shana, Mr. Oji said NIGC has started exchanging letters with Azeri officials on importing 5 million cubic meters of gas per day adding by ending the holy month of Ramadan, an Iranian high ranking delegation is going to visit the country.

Oji went on to say that we welcome gas imports if they are interested to increase the export volume.

NIGC managing director pointed out that our policy is based on buying gas from suppliers and selling it to those who need it noting on Azerbaijan we just transit thair gas to Nakhjavan region.

Recently NIGC gas exports director, Asghar Sohilipour had said upgrading the gas pipeline and gas compressor in the Azerbaijan Republic has completed noting now there is the possibility to increase gas exports to Iran to 2.5 million cubic meter per day in the first phase and 5 million cubic meters a day in the second phase.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries gas swap is slated to increase from 1 million cubic meters per day to 2.5 million cubic meters per day in the first phase and to 5 million cubic meters per day in the second phase.
