TEHRAN (Shana): Iran's petroleum minister says final decision on remaining phases of the South Pars gas field will be made in near future and Iranian companies will start operational work.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the second meeting of "the special working group of the president's representative in oil affairs" in Assaluyeh, Dr Masoud Mirkazemi, the petroleum minister said: we have made a decision to develop the remaining phases of the South Pars gas field and the necessary contracts would be signed with Iranian companies over the next days.

He said preparatory works have been started in some phases and some of the them have achieved physical progress by 30 to 50 percent.

The petroleum minister remarked that eight phases of the giant gas field are online now and two other phases are near completion that after processing, their gas would be injected to the oil fields.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Dr Mirkazemi noted that currently every day 24 million cubic meters of gas are injected to oilfields to enhance recovery rates of production.

Noting about the meeting of the special working group of the president's representative in oil affairs, the petroleum minister said during the meeting the members emphasized on securing financial resources for the phases in order to remove the problem of payments to contractors.

Dr. Mirkazemi announced that the timetable for implementation and completion of the remaining phases has set, in a 35 months framework all the phases would be completed, and the contractors will deliver the projects.

The South Pars gas field is a natural gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf. It is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar.
