TEHRAN January 18 (Shana): Iranian minister of petroleum, Dr. Seyed Masoud Mirkazemi arrived Damascus today morning to pursue previous bilateral negotiations on boosting energy ties.

Iranian official welcomed in Damascus airport by his Syrian counterpart Sofian Alao. Mirkazemi is accompanied by Ahmad Khaleghi, deputy minister of petroleum for commercial and international affairs during his visit to Syrian.

Syrian minister of oil visited Iran in August 2010 to discuss on Iran’s  gas transfer to Europe via Syrian territory, building a 140 thousand barrels oil refinery in Syria and examining construction of an oil pipeline transferring Iran’s oil to Syrian and Europe via Iraq.

Since the start of the year 2011, Iranian minister of petroleum has had several meetings with his counterparts from Turkey and Azerbaijan republic as well.

Iran plans to extend energy cooperation with its neighboring countries and in the region.

last week Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic signed a deal to increase  Iran’s gas imports form the neighboring country to two million cubic meters per day in the first phase and to five mcm/d in the second phase.

Iranian minister of petroleum, Seyed Masoud Mirkazemi visited Baku on January 12 to talk Azerbaijani executives including Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev on energy cooperation.
