TEHRAN Jan 16 (Shana): Supplying gasoline compatible with euro-4 standards will be starting as of the middle of next Iranian calendar year which begins 21st March 2012, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), Jalil Salari said here on Sunday.

Addressing at reduction air pollution taskforce meeting, Mr. Salari said that 20 million liters of gasoline compatible with euro-4 specifications would be within reach on a daily basis in petrol stations as of next year.

He went on to say that many sub-projects related to oil refineries had been come online and another 20 projects would be completed until the end of the current Iranian year on 20th March 2012.

Stating that the country’s refining capacity has been risen in recent years with the aim of curbing selling crude oil, the official said that oil refining capacity of Lavan oil refinery had increased from 30 thousand barrels per day to 50 thousand barrels per day and Imam Khomaini (Shazand) oil refinery from 170 thousand barrels to 250 thousand barrels per day while accumulated refining capacity had reached 1.8 million barrels per day.

Alluding to trial supplying of euro-4 gasoline in some petrol stations as of 20th  March, NIOPDC official noted regular supplying euro-4 gasoline would be started in the middle of next year.

On specification of euro-4 gasoline, Salari said: The gasoline is non-olefin and its sulfur content has been reduced from 1000 part per million (ppm) to less than 40 ppm.

The official also reported of distribution of about 10 million liters of gasoil compatible wit euro-4 standards in 20 January, which is named Clean Day, in Tehran adding sulfur content of the gasoil had been reduced to about 50 part per million (PPM).

‘Fortunately financial resources were needed for developmental plans were provided through domestic resources and issuing participation bonds and by launching these plans, gasoline making capacity of the country will climb by 13 million liters per day’, the official said.

He continued that naphtha treatment and isomerization units at Tehran (Shahid Tondgouyan) are in pre-commissioning phase and will start production of super gasoline in near future.  

Referring to launching gasoline making units of Tabriz and Isfahan oil refineries in next year, Salari stated that cat cracker unit of Abadan oil refinery was among the projects came online this year while its alkylation’s unit with 90 percent progress would come on stream before the end of the year. 

‘By completion of development plans at oil refineries, gasoline production capacity will rise by 44 million liters per day 13 million liters of which are the result of gasoline making projects and 26 million liters are due to implementation of upgrading plans.

He concluded that by launching ongoing oil refineries projects, gasoline production capacity of the country would hit 190 million liters per day 36 million liters of which comes from Persian Gulf’s Star oil refinery leading to huge amount of gasoline exports.
