TEHRAN Jan 30 (Shana): During the first 10 months of current Iranian calendar year, since 21st March 2011, gasoline consumption stood at 18.281 billion liters in total down by 833 million liters against similar period last year.

 Average daily gasoline consumption hit 57.8 million liters during the period down by 2.6 million liters per day year on year.

Statistics realized by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company show that in spite of declining gasoline consumption, gasoil consumption rose during the period reaching 29.082 billion liters up by 393.6 million liters or 1.3 percent in comparison to the similar period last year.

Meanwhile average daily gasoil consumption stood at 920.3 million liters during the period up by 12.5 million liters a day year on year.

With regard to implementation of different upgrading and development plans at oil refineries, daily gasoline production capacity has increased from 43 million liters last year to 58 million liters a day this year which is expected to climb to 70 million liters per day up to the end of current Iranian calendar year on 20th March 2012.

Implementation of targeted subsidies law since December 2010 plus gasoline rationing have contributed to a great extent to reining gasoline consumption. Regarding ongoing plans which will increase gasoline production capacity to 80 million liters per day up to the end of the Iranian year 1392 (20 March 2013) the country will have 25 million liters surplus capacity that could be used for export.
