Zanganeh Denies 85 Percent Rise of Energy Prices

TEHRAN Feb 02 (Shana): Iranian minister of petroleum, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, denied a report on raising the price of energy carriers by 85 percent saying the government has not yet made a final decision on the issue.

Majlis news website quoted Zanganeh yesterday as saying no final decision has been made with regard to energy prices.

He added the government was seeking ways to prevent harming peoples’ economic situation, especially vulnerable strata, by raising energy carriers’ prices.

Responding to a question on rising energy prices in next year’s budget bill by 85 percent, Zanganeh said: I am not aware of the source of data.

Majlis is busy these days by debating on next year’s budget bill. During the second day of examining budget on Thursday, members of parliament obliged Petroleum Ministry to deposit 31 percent of oil and gas condensate revenues into the National Development Fund. Lawmakers have not yet made a final decision on subsidies or the price of energy carriers for the next Iranian calendar year, beginning March 21.
