South Pars, Key to Iran Economy

TEHRAN April 13 (Shana)--Iran’s gigantic South Pars gas field is instrumental in the country’s national economic development, a vice-president said.

Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, vice-president for planning and strategic supervision, said the administration of President Hassan Rouhani is determined to develop hydrocarbon fields Iran shares with neighboring countries.

Iran shares South Pars with Qatar in the Persian Gulf.

Nobakht visited the refinery structures of Phase 12 of South Pars on Friday.

Phase 12,which is close to coming on-stream, is expected to produce 84 mcm/d of gas for injection into national gas pipeline, 120,000 b/d of gas condensate and 750 tons per day of granulated sulfur.

A consortium of Iranian companies led by Petropars is operating the phase.

Phase 12 recently started tentative production. It is injecting more than 12 mcm/d of natural gas into national network, plus giving 16,000 b/d of gas condensate.
