Iran Power Generation Up 4.6%

TEHRAN April 14 (Shana)--Iran’s electricity generation grew 4.6 percent in the last calendar year to March 2014, a deputy minister of energy said.

Housghang Falahatian said Iran generated nearly 266 billion kilowatts/hour of electricity in the year which ended on March 21.

He said the figure was up 4.6 percent from a year ago.

Falahatian said the production capacity of Iranian power plants reached 70,327 megawatts.

Iran operates thermal, gas-fired, atomic, diesel-fuelled and combined cycle power plants among others.

Iran also exchanges electricity with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, ,Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan.
