Petchems Ordered to Remove Solvents from Fuel

TEHRAN April 15 (Shana)--Industrial solvents used in gasoline have to be removed three months after the government adopts anti-pollution law, a deputy head of the Department of the Environment said.

Saeed Motesadi said the gasoline produced from petrochemical plants contain industrial solvents which cause air pollution.

He said euro-4 fuel must be also distributed and power plants should stop using fuel oil.

The government has adopted a 9-point plan for reducing air pollution, mainly focusing on high-quality gasoline distribution and better transportation services.

The plan, adopted on Sunday, calls on Petroleum Ministry to distribute euro-4 gasoline in big cities.

The engines of diesel-burning cars are required to be modified to produce less pollution.

Transportation fleet has to be renovated while a national network must be installed to regularly monitor air pollution.

Green space must be expanded in the cities and the Department of the Environment must regularly hold training programs on state television.
