Turkey Gas Complaint Causes No Problem for Iran: Zanganeh

TEHRAN April 15 (Shana)--Iran’s Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Turkey’s complaint against Iran over gas prices would cause no problem for the Islamic Republic.

“The Turks’ complaint with the International Court of Justice about high gas prices would cause no problem with Iran, and Iran will be most likely the winner,” Zanganeh told Shana on the sidelines of a meeting with Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz in Tehran.

Turkey says it is paying 490 dollars for each 1,000 cubic meters of Iran’s gas while Azerbaijan and Russia supply gas to Turkey at 335 and 425 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters respectively.

Zanganeh said he discussed development of oil and gas relations between Iran and Turkey in the meeting.

He said talks are still under way between Iran and Turkey about Tehran increasing its gas exports to Turkey to 20 bcm a year.

Deputy Petroleum Minister Ali Majedi also said that Turkey is paying less to Russia for gas imports because of the higher volume of gas it purchases from that country.

“Iran wants to have a share equal to Russia’s in the Turkish gas market,” said Majedi, adding that Turkey has been a good gas buyer of Iran.

“The general framework is that if prices are modified, gas exports should increase,” he said.
