The production was expected, however, to hit 57bn tons which failed to materialize due to certain unforeseen and unprepared-for issues inflicted upon Iranian petrochemical complexes during last year.

17 petrochemical sites in the southwestern city of Mahshahr, 11 complexes located at the giant offshore South Pars gas field, and 15 other sites in other parts of the country produced as much as 40.5 billion tons of petrochemicals during the period between March 20 2013 and 2014.
