Iran Unhappy with Chinese Firm

TEHRAN May 06 (Shana)--Iran’s Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction with a Chinese firm developing North Azadegan field in southwest Iran.

“This [Chinese] company is currently present in this project, but we are not happy with their performance at all,” he told reporters at Tehran Oil and Gas Show.

“Petroleum Ministry has by no means any intention of removing Chinese companies and investors from [Iran’s] petroleum industry, but Iran has ended its cooperation with the Chinese firms that have not fulfilled their obligations in some projects,” he said.

Zanganeh also dismissed rumors of substandard gasoline purchase from China, saying these “lies” are spread by those who have waged a “psychological war” on the Iranian nation.

“Iran has no contract for gasoline purchase from China,” he said.

Zanganeh said Iran is buying gasoline from India, Singapore and other countries, adding that the country needs to import at least 10 ml/d of gasoline now.

The minister also said that Pakistan has to honor its commitments regarding its gas pipeline deal with Iran.
