Petroleum Ministry Monitoring Cyber Threats

TEHRAN June 3 (Shana)--Cyber activities of Iran’s Petroleum Ministry are being closely watched for protection against viruses, director for civil defense of Petroleum Ministry said.

“We face no problem with regards to cyber threats and all these affairs are being monitored at Petroleum Ministry,” Vahid Reza Zeidifar said.
He said that Petroleum Ministry fully executes instructions given by Iran’s Civil Defense Organization.
“Our colleagues in all sections of Petroleum Ministry are obligated to safeguard the security of systems against cyber threats,” he said, adding that data security committee and cyber threats committee are currently active.
In April 2012, Iran’s Petroleum Ministry called a crisis meeting after its main website and internal communications system were hit by an apparent cyber-attack that forced authorities to cut off the country's oil export terminal from the internet.
A virus had reportedly struck the computer and communication systems of Iran's main oil export facilities on Kharg Island as well as the internal network and the websites of its oil ministry and subsidiary organizations.
Among services provided by the ministry's website are fuel cards, which millions of Iranians use on a daily basis to buy gasoline for cars.
