Reformer Production Halt Saves $150m a Year

TEHRAN June 24 (Shana)--A deputy petroleum minister said “reformer” production halt in petrochemical plants saves Iran 150 million dollars a year.

“The halt in the production of reformer as octane substance in petrochemical plants and its replacement with [euro-4 gasoline] imported from overseas would save the country 150 million dollars a year,” Abbas Kazemi said.
Kazemi, who is also managing-director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said purchasing reformer from petrochemical plants costs 90 dollars more than gasoline imports.
He said petrochemical plants can export their products which could be used in solvents.
Iran has already started distributing euro-4 gasoline in big cities in order to reduce air pollution.
Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh recently ordered petrochemical plants to stop producing gasoline which has proven to be carcinogenic.
