Gholam-Reza Mehrdad said liquid fuel has no advantage of power plants, adding that natural gas is clean and low-cost.
He said that Petroleum Ministry will have big reserves of liquid fuel if all power plants are fed with gas.
Mehrdad said liquid fuel costs power plants twice the natural gas.
Iran’s Petroleum Ministry has instructed power plants to switch to natural gas by March 2016, managing-director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company said recently.
Mostafa Kaskhouli said the power plants’ shift from liquid fuel to natural gas will save fuel waste.
“NIOPDC supplied more than 27 billion liters of liquid fuel to power plants last [calendar] year [to March 2014], up five billion liters from the year before,” he said.
Kashkouli said 250 million liters of oil products is being consumed in the country every day.
