Iran to Diversify Petrochemical Products

Tehran July 1 (Shana) – Production capacity of Iranian petrochemical plants has increased and Iran will be able to diversify its petrochemical products as new petrochemical projects are becoming operational.

Speaking to Shana on Monday, Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, a senior official at Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said petrochemical plants are able to meet most domestic needs as they presently produce different kinds of polymer and chemical products.
“Fortunately, with new planning, Iran will be capable in the near future to produce products now being imported," he said.
Developmental projects will gradually come on stream, he said, hoping that Iran’s petrochemical industry will witness a breakthrough in coming years.
He underlined the role of Assaluyeh and Mahshahr, as two production hubs in southern Iran, and other developmental plans across the country to complete production chain of a large number of petrochemical products.
NPC Deputy Managing-Director Mohammad Hassan Peyvandi earlier put Iran’s petrochemical production capacity in 2013 at nearly 60 million tons.
He said around 1 million tons will be added to Iran’s current polyethylene capacity production by the end of 2015.
