Petroleum Ministry to Keep Fuel Supplies to all Sectors

TEHRAN July 20 (Shana): Iran's Petroleum Ministry is providing and will maintain fuel supplies to all sectors including power plants under its comprehensive plan for meeting fuel needs of the country, managing director for energy planning at Petroleum Ministry Mohsen Mazloumi said.

In response to Energy Ministry officials’ concerns over inadequate supply of liquid fuel for power plants, Mosloumi said: "Petroleum Ministry is committed to providing adequate fuels including fuel oil, gasoil and other fuels to different sectors."

He noted that Petroleum Ministry has decided to raise gas delivery to power plants to the maximum level this year and that is why it has changed its liquid fuel storage plan it used during past years.

According to Mazloumi, Petroleum Ministry is committed to provide fuel needs of all sectors including not only Energy Ministry but also major industries, refineries, petrochemical plants, residential and commercial sectors, services, transportation and agricultural sectors.

Elsewhere in his remarks he noted that since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year on March 21 2014,  power plants have used 200mcm/d of gas equivalent, of which close to 160mcm have been natural gas and just 40ml of liquid fuel, which means natural gas has made up 80 percent of total consumption by power plants, up by 20 percent against similar period last year when gas consumption made up 60 percent of power plants’ fuel consumption.

“Despite rising consumption of 25 mcm/d of gas equivalent by power plants this year, since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year gas delivery to power plants has risen by 45mcm/d while their liquid fuel consumption has declined by 22ml against the similar period last year, indicating that changes have been made in the approach of the Petroleum Ministry for supplying fuel to power plants”, Petroleum Ministry's official concluded.
