Hamid-Reza Golpayegani said the planned transfer of rigs is in line with Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh’s order for accelerated development of the oil field shared with Iraq.
Two drilling rigs are already operating in the field.
Golpayegani said NIDC has been commissioned by Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) the task to drill 50 wells in South Azadegan.
He said the drilling operations will be on a turnkey basis, adding that NIDC will provide all necessary specialized and logistics services.
Golpayegani said NIDC drilling rigs are already operating in the zones controlled by PEDEC, National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Exploration Directorate.
South Azadegan is expected to produce 320,000 b/d of oil and 197 mcf/d of gas in the first phase of development. In the second phase, its oil production is hoped to rise to 600,000 b/d.
