Iran to Start Gas Delivery to Iraq Next Year

TEHRAN July 23 (Shana)--Iran is expected to start pumping gas to neighboring Iraq early next Persian calendar year which starts on March 21, 2015, a deputy Iranian petroleum minister said.

“After the completion of structures, pipeline testing and the installation of measurement systems, Iran’s gas will [start to] be exported to Iraq early next [calendar] year,” Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Trading Ali Majedi said on Wednesday.
He said that Iran has agreed to export 25 mcm/d of gas to Iraq, adding that the gas delivery will start at 7 mcm/d.
Majedi said Iran has already built 80 percent of its own section of the pipeline stretching into Iraq.
The construction of a pipeline that will carry natural gas from Iran to Iraq is expected to be completed by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.
The 100-kilometer, 48-inch pipeline will stretch from the village of Charmaleh, located in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah, into the town of Naft Shahr on the border with Iraq.
Iran has been trying to enhance its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investment, especially in its South Pars gas field.
The South Pars gas field, which is divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. The field is estimated to contain about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.
