Iran Crude Reining Capacity to Hit 2.2 mb/d

TEHRAN August 30 (Shana)--Iran will see its crude oil refining capacity reach 2.2 mb/d from the current 1.9 mb/d after the start-up of Persian Gulf Star Refinery, a senior official said.

“With the construction of Persian Gulf Star Refinery – the most strategic petroleum industry project after South Pars [gas field] – the country’s crude oil refining capacity will exceed 2.2 mb/d,” managing-director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company Abbas Kazemi said.
He said that development of existing refineries and construction of new ones will make Iran an exporter of gasoline.
“Over the past five years, we have been importing such products as gasoil, gasoline, liquefied gas and even fuel oil. We have reached self-sufficiency in all these products except for gasoline,” said Kazemi.
He noted that Iran’s gasoline imports have significantly declined in recent years.
