Ebrahim Karkhaneh said construction of two nuclear plants is being studied for the generation of 2,000 megawatts.
He said that Iran is already generating 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
“We hope that the country would be able to raise nuclear power generation to 8,000 megawatts,” said Karkhaneh.
Iran is in talks with Russia for the construction of the second and third nuclear power plants.
In September 2013, Iran officially took over from Russia the first unit of its first 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plant in Bushehr for two years. The initial construction of the Bushehr facility began in 1975 by German companies, but the work was halted following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
