Energy, Key to Iran-Russia Ties

TEHRAN Sep. 9 (Shana)--Energy is instrumental in relations between Iran and Russia, a top Russian economic official said.

Deputy Director of the Asia and Africa Department of the Russian Economic Development Ministry Nailya Chernikova said the presence of a large number of energy officials from Russia in Tehran shows the significance of energy for both countries.
Tehran has been hosting the two-day 11th meeting of Iran-Russia Business Council, which started on Monday.
Chernikova said the 11th meeting is different from the previous ones because Iranian and Russian presidents have given new impetus to the two countries to boost relations.
She said that the Iranian party is willing to reach a banking agreement with Russia, adding that no agreement has been signed to that effect.
