Iran Eyes Renewable Energies Zone

TEHRAN Sept 13 (Shana)--Iran’s Energy Ministry plans to establish a special zone for renewable energies, a deputy minister said.

Houshang Falahatian said Energy Ministry plans to develop renewable energies, particularly solar and wind energies.
He said that Khaf region in northeastern Iran is potentially appropriate for installing wind turbines, adding that the private sector has been given the go-ahead to operate the project.
Falahatian said wind turbines, generating at least 200 megawatts, are planned to be installed in Khaf up to March 2016.
“It has been proposed that we name Khaf as the Special Zone for Renewable Energies and Energy Ministry is not opposed to this proposal and supports the private sector’s investment,” he said.
Falahatian said the efficiency rate from installing wind turbines in Khaf would be above 50 percent.
He added that National Development Fund of Iran (NDFI) and agent banks are ready to contribute.
