Iran, Russia Can Benefit From Sanctions

TEHRAN Sept 17 (Shana)--Iran and Russia can take advantage of sanctions imposed against them to broaden their ties, an Iranian deputy petroleum minister said.

“With the sanctions imposed against the two countries, they can know each other’s potentials further and expand their cooperation,” Ali Majedi, who is deputy minister for international affairs and trading, said.
He said that Iran and Russia have so far failed to benefit from their economic and commercial capacities in different sectors.
“Although good relation has been established between Tehran and Moscow, Iran and Russia do not have enough knowledge of each other’s economy and trade,” said Majedi.
He said the oil/gas-dependent structure of Iranian and Russian economies have prevented their mutual knowledge.
“Iran can use Russia’s products in the oil, gas and heavy industries. The Russians can become active in our oil and gas projects and Iran can also increase its food products to Russia,” Majedi said.
