Iran CNG Consumption Up 1,400 Times

TEHRAN Sept 20 (Shana)--The consumption of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Iran has increased from 5 mcm in 2002 to 7 bcm in 2012, up 1,400 times, the managing-director of Iran Fuel Conservation Organization said.

Nosratollah Seifi said CNG consumption by the public transportation sector started in Iran in 2010.
He said there are nearly 3.3 million dual-fuel vehicles in Iran, but the number of CNG stations does not match the number of vehicles.
Seifi said growing CNG consumption has significantly cut gasoline imports and paved the way for setting realistic prices.
He, however, said the private sector does not have enough motivation to build CNG stations.
