TEHRAN Sept 29 (Shana)--Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called for the expansion of energy cooperation between Tehran and Baku.

“There are very good potentialities in the energy, oil and gas, trade, environment and tourism sectors and [Iran-Azerbaijan] Joint Business Council has to become more active to that effect,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.
Rouhani underlined the significance of start-up of North-South Corridor, saying: “The construction of a railway stretching from Qazvin to Rasht and then to Astara has picked up speed and the two countries should connect their railroads.”
He stressed the need for more cooperation between Iranian and Azeri private sectors and demanded that Azerbaijan facilitate the issuance of visa for Iranian businessmen.
Rouhani also called for further cooperation between the two countries in regional and international affairs, and said Tehran and Baku should adopt harmonious stance in international bodies.
For his part, Aliyev said Iranian and Azeri nations are willing to broaden cooperation with Tehran in all sectors.
He said a joint railroad will connect Azerbaijan to high seas, noting that this project will serve the interests of both countries and their neighbors.
